Know Which G Codes Cover LPNs -- And Which Don't

HHAs confused about how to report LPN visits with G codes can look to new HHH MAC CGS for guidance. "The HCPCS definitions that specify services were provided by a licensed nurse can be used for either a registered nurse (RN) or LPN, unless your state regulations prohibit LPNs from performing certain types of services," CGS advises in a question-and-answer set on its website. Those include codes G0154, G0163, and G0164. Watch out: Don't include the code for management and evaluation in the category, however. "Note that HCPC G0162 specifies that an RN perform management and evaluation of the plan of care," CGS points out.
