Don't expect a RAP payment

Don't expect a RAP payment if your patient has an open Medicare Secondary Payor record. So says home health Medicare Administrative Contractor NHIC in a new frequently asked question about the scenario. "When a RAP is sent to the [Common Working File] to open a new home health episode, it also verifies that Medicare is the primary payer," NHIC explains in the FAQ. "If there is an open MSP record, there is a possibility that Medicare will not be the primary payer for the HH PPS episode." How to tell: You'll see a "Z" no-pay code applied to the RAP and zero payment when this occurs, NHIC says.
