Industry Notes:

Hospital Consolidates Two HHA

Industry consolidation continues, even at the micro level. Southcoast Health System in New Bedford, Mass., will consolidate its two separate home health agencies into one, reports the Fall River Herald News. The Visiting Nurse Association of Southeastern Massachusetts and Southcoast Home Care, Hospice & Palliative Care & Infusion have functioned separately within the Southcoast system since 1996, the newspaper says. The newly combined agencies will be called the Southcoast Visiting Nurse Association. "It is easier, more cost effective to work with one home health agency versus two," Sharon Jones, CEO of Southcoast VNA, tells the paper. "The consolidation will bring together the best practices of both agencies to form a much stronger system, which will allow us to meet the goal of reducing health care costs."
