PECOS Edits Start Nov. 8.

• If you geared up to analyze PECOS edit results starting Oct. 4, you can finally put that effort to good use. CMS had pushed back phase 1 of the edit, which checks that the referring physician on an HHA claim has a valid NPI and is enrolled in Medicare's PECOS system. Now phase 1 editing will begin Nov. 8, confirms regional home health intermediary Cahaba GBA in a message to pro-viders. Phase 1 is merely informational, letting agencies know their claims don't qualify, but leaving reimbursement unaffected. Phase 2 of Medicare's PECOS edits will reject claims that don't have the required physician information. CMS recently pushed back phase 2 edits to start next July (see Eli's HCW, Vol. XIX, No. 37, p. 290).
