Will Your Injection Practices Stand Up To Scrutiny?

Safe injection practices will be a focus of your survey if you're accredited by the Joint Commission. "While the majority of care providers believe they follow disease-free injection practices, unfortunately some myths and misunderstandings exist that have caused major outbreaks in the last several years," warns the Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.- based accrediting body formerly known as JCAHO. The Commission endorses the "One Needle, One Syringe, Only One Time" campaign. Accredited providers need to follow 2007 guidelines on injections from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC), the Commission says.
