Hospice News:

Be Sure To Include Facility NPI Too For Patients In SNF, Hospital

Don’t forget to report a service facility NPI when billing place of service HCPCS codes for hospice services furnished in facilities, reminds HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor CGS. That includes codes Q5003 (hospice care provided in nursing long term care facility [LTC] or non-skilled nursing facility [NF]); Q5004 (hospice care provided in skilled nursing facility [SNF]); Q5005 (hospice care provided in inpatient hospital); Q5007 (hospice care provided in long term care hospital [LTCH]); and Q5008 (hospice care provided in inpatient psychiatric facility).

Reminder: That requirement took effect for dates of service on/after April 1, per Change Request 8358, CGS says. “The service facility NPI must be reported in Loop 2310E (when billing in the 5010 electronic claim format) or the SERV FAC NPI field in the Fiscal Intermediary Standard System (FISS) on Claim Page 03,” CGS instructs.

“Claims that do not include an NPI in the SERV FAC NPI field when required will be sent to the returned to the provider (RTP) file (status/location T B9997) for correction,” CGS emphasizes. “Providers can reduce claims processing times and avoid payment delays by ensuring this information is reported on the claim when required.”
