Hospice News:

Hospice Item Set Prep Should Start Now

HIS manual, training video coming.

Your crash course in the new data collection tool for hospice patients will begin later this month.

First, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will issue a Hospice Item Set (HIS) manual in late January, the agency says on its website. Then it will provide two half-days of training on Feb. 4 and Feb. 5.

“To ensure access to the training for ALL hospices, the training will be live-streamed, and will also be recorded and posted on the CMS website for on-demand viewing,” CMS says. The two-half days are not repeated, but cover separate unique material.

A limited number of hospices can send one representative to the training at CMS’s Baltimore headquarters, the agency adds. Information on how to register for the onsite training, or how to access the streamed video, is at www.cms.gov/Medicare/Quality-Initiatives-Patient-Assessment-Instruments/Hospice-Quality-Reporting/Hospice-Item-Set-HIS.html.
