Hospice News:

Hospices Open Inpatient Units In Busy Markets

The number of hospice inpatient facilities is increasing.

In Texas: Hospice of Wichita Falls will build a new inpatient care center, reports KAUZ News Channel 6. The hospice has had to turn patients away from its existing 12-bed facility, the news station says. The hospice’s average daily census grew 68 percent from 2010 to 2016. The new center will have 24 inpatient suites.

In Ohio: Hospice of Central Ohio soon will open a 12-bed unit leased inside Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, reports Columbus Business First.

The hospice and university announced the plan last summer. In that release, the university stressed Hospice of Central Ohio’s nonprofit status. Hospice of Central Ohio is an affiliate of Ohio’s Hospice, a nonprofit alliance serving 36 counties in the state.
