In light of increasing medical review from an array of sources, is a good time for smart hospices to tighten up their documentation. A recently posted Hospice Documentation Checklist tool may be just the ticket to kickstart your efforts.

The three-page tool from CGS, which covers the election statement, certification of terminal illness, Face-to-Face, Plan of Care, terminal prognosis, and Level of Care is at www.cgsmedicare.com/hhh/education/materials/pdf/j15_hospice_doc_checklistre.pdf.

For example: The election statement must include “acknowledgement the beneficiary has been given a full understanding of hospice care, palliative versus curative treatment,” the checklist says.
