RAC Review Of Hospice Coverage Underway

One of the Recovery Audit Contractors has had a hospice issue approved for months, but the RAC is now pulling the trigger on it.
Connolly Inc., the RAC for Region C, previously posted CMS’s Feb. 2 approval of “Hospice: Medicare Coverage Requirement Review.” Now the RAC that covers 15 states and Puerto Rico has begun working on the issue, reports the Hospice Association of America.
Even if your agency isn’t in Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia or Puerto Rico, this issue can still affect you, warns HAA, a National Association for Home Care & Hospice affiliate. “All certified hospices have the same Medicare coverage requirements and all should be documenting a patient’s eligibility for these coverage requirements clearly in the medical record,” HAA urges.
