Revised Post-Acute Data Files Include Info From Thousands Of Hospices

A new wealth of data is now at your fingertips. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has posted its first Post-Acute Care (PAC) and hospice utilization and payment public use files. “These PUFs replace the home health, hospice, and Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs) utilization and payment PUFs released in past years,” CMS notes.

The new PUFs include “standardized metrics across all PAC and hospice settings,” CMS notes.

They include summarized information on services provided to Medicare beneficiaries by 4,254 hospices, 9,701 home health agencies, 15,036 SNFs, 1,119 IRFs, and 410 LTCHs; and nearly 16 million claims and over $74 billion in Medicare payments.

They also include demographic and clinical characteristics of beneficiaries served; professional and paraprofessional service utilization; submitted charges; payments at the provider, state, and national levels; and payment information at the payment system level for home health agencies, SNFs, and IRFs.
