Watch Out For These Drugs On Updated Beers List

The updated Beers list of potentially dangerous drugs in the elderly contains a number of new drugs. Some of the additions include the following meds:

 

  •  Conventional antipsychotic medications, Reglan and Cognex, in patients with Parkinson's disease;
     
  •  Wellbutrin in residents with seizure disorders;
     
  •  Macrodantin;
     
  •  Ferrous sulfate greater than 325 mg;
     
  •  Daily Prozac;

  •  Catapres;

  •  Tagamet 

  •  Long-acting benzodiazepenes in residents who have COPD, stress incontinence, depression and falls; and
     
  •  Antispasmodics, muscle relaxants and barbiturates in residents with cognitive impairment.
