NURSING HOMES MUST POST STAFFING NUMBERS ON JAN. 1

Nursing facilities will be ringing in the New Year with another new reporting requirement. On Jan. 1, facilities must post in a visible place the numbers of direct care staff, both licensed and unlicensed, daily and for each shift. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will be specifying a "uniform manner" for facilities to display the staffing information. CMS recently issued a memorandum to regional offices and state agencies directing surveyors to verify that facilities are posting the information, but not audit the data during the survey.
