Remember 'Bump's Law' When Care Planning

Keep 4 questions in mind to provide person-centered care.

Linda Bump, MPH, RD, LD, LNHA of Action Pact, Inc. is a national pioneer of person-centered care. The so-called “Bump’s Law” poses four benchmark questions to help keep facilities from sliding back into the old medical model of care, according to the Culture Change Network of Georgia.

When care planning, always ask yourself:

1. What does the resident want?

2. How did/does the resident do it at his/her home?

3. How do you do it at home?

4. How should we do it here?
