HRSA-Funded Health Centers Get Another Boost

In another move to help rural and underserved communities get vaccinated, the feds are inviting all Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA)-funded health centers to become part of the Health Center COVID-19 Vaccination Program.

Reminder: Last month, the Department of Health and Human Service (HHS) announced another $150 million allocation for the HRSA program, which added 700 more health centers to the 250 already in the program (see Medicare Compliance & Reimbursement, Vol. 47, No. 7).

Now: On April 7, HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra expanded the program to include all HRSA-funded health centers as well as Health Center Program look-alikes (LALs), an HHS release says. The addition of another 520 health centers — including 2,500 delivery sites — brings the total to 1,470.

The expansion offers vaccine access to some of the hardest hit by the virus, Becerra says. “By adding to the number of community health centers participating in this program, we will help make sure shots are getting to those who need them most.”
