The interest rate for Medicare overpayments and underpayments went up April 28, rising from 10.75 percent to 11.625 percent, according to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services program memorandum AB-03-051 (http:// cms.hhs.gov/manuals/pm_trans/AB03051.pdf). The rate was 13.75 percent at this time last year. In other recent program memoranda, CMS:
requires Medicare carriers to disclose certain reasonable-charge data for ambulance services to managed care organizations (B-03-029; http://cms.hhs.gov/manuals/pm_trans/B03029.pdf);
clarifies policies on the entitlement period for Medicare end-stage renal disease benefits (AB-03-048; http://cms.hhs.gov/manuals/pm_trans/AB03048.pdf); and
corrects certain type-of-service inconsistencies on the common working file (B-03-30; http://cms.hhs.gov/manuals/pm_trans/B03030.pdf); and
addresses concerns relating to the electronic correspondence referral system (AB-03-050; http://cms.hhs.gov/manuals/pm_trans/AB03050).
