ERADER QUESTION ~ Specific Codes Are Best Bet for Myofascial Pain

Question: What diagnosis should I use for myofascial pain or myofascial discomfort?

South Carolina Subscriber Answer: Some coders say your best choice is 729.1 (Myalgia and myositis, unspecified), but other coders disagree. These coders recommend that you submit a diagnosis that's more specific to the patient's pain, such as 724.2 (Lumbago) for myofascial pain in the low back area.
