Reader Question:

Combine HCPCS and CPT for motorized wheelchair

Question: What CPT code should I report when our neurologist completes the paperwork for a patient to get a motorized wheelchair? Missouri Subscriber Answer: You can bill HCPCS code G0372 (Physician service required to establish and document the need for a power mobility device) for the extra work associated with prescribing a power wheelchair or scooter. Report it as an add-on code with the appropriate E/M code for the patient's visit from 99211-99215 (Office or other outpatient visit for the evaluation and management of an established patient ...). Payment for G0372 equals what you would receive for 99211. By using G0372, you pledge to deliver the relevant documentation to the DME supplier within 30 days of the face-to-face visit.
