Can a pharmacist provide drug education intervention?

Get ready: The July 2011 Quarterly OASIS Q&As from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid and the OASIS Certificate and Competency Board are just around the corner. Are you sure you're up to speed on the April guidance? Give your knowledge a workout with this Q&A quiz.

Question 1: You admit a patient for service, with the understanding that the face-to-face (F2F) visit will take place on day 25. You complete the start of care (SOC) comprehensive assessment; send the OASIS to the state and it is accepted. By day 30 after the SOC, the patient hasn't had his F2F with the physician and he is discharged because the coverage criteria wasn't met. What should you do with the OASIS submitted to the state? And do you need to complete another OASIS at discharge?

Question 2: What's the correct way to answer M1342 (Status of Most Problematic [Observable] Surgical Wound) when the surgery took place less than 30 days ago?

Question 3: Can I mark M1510 (Heart Failure Followup) with response 1 -- Patient's physician contacted the same day if the physician calls the patient back rather than our agency? We identified the symptoms and left a message with the physician's office staff on the same day, but later that day the physician called the patient back with instructions regarding the heart failure symptoms, rather than calling our agency.

Question 4: If there are no orders on the referral for psych nursing services, but the skilled nurse identifies a psych issue on her initial assessment and plans to obtain physician's orders for the agency's Mental Health Nurse, can she answer M1750 -- Is this patient receiving Psychiatric Nursing Services at home provided by a qualified psychiatric nurse? "Yes" Can she answer "Yes" even if the visit by the Mental Health Nurse will not be completed in the 5 day assessment window?

Question 5: When answering M2015 -- Patient/Caregiver Drug Education Intervention, does a pharmacist qualify as an "other healthcare provider?"
