Ob-Gyn Coding Alert

How to Code NST and BPP in Twin Pregnancy:

Glossary

Fetal non-stress test (NST) performed to monitor the fetal heart rate. An external transducer is used, and a tracing is observed for fetal heart rate accelerations peaking at least 15 beats per minute above the baseline and lasting 15 seconds from baseline to baseline. The testing can be continued for 40 minutes or longer to account for the typical fetal sleep-wake cycle.

Reactive (reassuring) NST when two or more fetal heart rate accelerations are detected within a 20-minute period, with or without fetal movement detectable by the mother.

Non-reactive (non-reassuring) NST insufficient fetal heart rate accelerations over a 40-minute period.

Biophysical profile includes a non-stress test and four observations made by real-time ultrasound. The five components of biophysical profiles are a reactive non-stress test, fetal breathing movements, fetal movement, fetal tone and quantification of amniotic fluid volume.

Complete echography of the pregnant uterus, multiple gestation includes visualization using transabdominal or transvaginal transducer of the maternal structures including uterus, cervix and adnexae. It also includes visualization of fetal structures including anatomy of each fetus, fetal number, presentations, biometric parameters, placentas, amniotic fluid volume, cardiac activity and movements of each fetus. &
