Check Your Coding Practices Against This Nexplanon Advice

Question: What code should I bill for Nexplanon?

Kansas Subscriber

Answer: In 2012, CPT® deleted code 11975 (Insertion, implantable contraceptive capsules), and gave instructions that the replacement code would be  11981 (Insertion, non-biodegradable drug delivery implant). Code 11981 now represents any drug system including contraceptives.

Be sure to include V25.5 (Insertion of implantable subdermal contraceptive) for your diagnosis.

ICD-10: When your diagnosis system changes, you’ll report Z30.49 (Encounter for surveillance of other contraceptives)
