Answer: If the pregnancy caused the problem, the correct code combination is 646.8x (other specified complications of pregnancy) with a secondary code of 574.20 (calculus of gallbladder without mention of cholecystitis; without mention of obstruction). If the problem was pre-existent, the primary code is 648.9x (other current conditions classifiable elsewhere). This is according to the National Center for Health Statistics ICD-9 Coordination and Maintenance Committee staff.
