Reader Question:

Endometrial Cancer Stage 1

Question: What is the ICD-9 code for endometrial cancer stage 1?

New Jersey Subscriber
Answer: Stage I endometrial cancers are limited to the endometrium (stage 1a), have invaded less than half of the myometrium (stage 1b), or have invaded more than half of the myometrium (stage 1c). Despite differences in the level of invasion of the cancer, the only ICD-9 code that captures this is 182.0 (malignant neoplasm of body of uterus, corpus uteri, except isthmus). This code is used for any stage of cancer of the cornu of the uterus, the endometrium, the fundus or the myometrium.
