Reader Question:

Get Your Missing IUD Diagnoses Straight

Question: We had a patient present today wanting her intrauterine device (IUD) removed. She has had it in for 21 years! The ob-gyn couldn't find the string on manual or visual exam. We have ordered an ultrasound to see if the IUD is still even there. The ultrasound will be done elsewhere. How would we diagnose "missing IUD" for the office visit?
