Reader Question:

Here's How to Calculate Bleeding Control Claims

Question: The doctor did a cerclage removal under anesthesia 59871 for cervical incompetence during pregnancy. The op report procedure also says he did a repair of anterior and posterior cervix for bleeding.

Description: There was one active bleeding area that was seen on the anterior cervix, which was repaired with 2-0 Vicryl.  Another area on the posterior lip of the cervix was seen that was actively bleeding.  Vicryl 2-0 was used to repair this bleeding area.

What should I report for the bleeding?

Answer: Nothing. You should count bleeding control as part of every surgical procedure.
