Look Back in Time for This Nexplanon Advice

Question: What code should I bill for Nexplanon?

Nebraska Subscriber

Answer: First, you should look back at the history of this procedure. In 2012, CPT® deleted code 11975 (Insertion, implantable contraceptive capsules), and gave instructions that the replacement code would be 11981 (Insertion, non-biodegradable drug delivery implant). Code 11981 now represents any drug system including contraceptives.

Second, be sure to include Z30.49 (Encounter for surveillance of other contraceptives) for your diagnosis.
