Review This Well Woman Visit Guideline

Question: You have referenced before the ACOG (American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) guideline that a complete ROS is required for a well woman visit. I need to show this to my doctors. I have searched ACOG and I am not having luck pulling up that guideline. Where do I find it on the website? Thank you!

Answer: The source is both the CPT® criteria and the ACOG Committee Opinion on Primary and Preventive Care issued in 2011. You would have to be a member of ACOG to obtain a copy of this, and if your provider is and has access to the ACOG website (www.acog.org), you can quickly download a copy.

The CPT® guidelines and code descriptions for the preventive examinations indicate that you are providing a comprehensive service that is age and gender appropriate. ACOG has listed the elements they think should be covered.
