7-Valent Pneumococcal Vaccine

Question: What code should be used for the new 7-valent pneumococcal vaccine? Is CPT 90732 correct?

Massachusetts Subscriber

Answer: The correct code for the new 7-valent pneumococcal vaccine is 90669 (pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, polyvalent, for intramuscular use). CPT assigned the pediatric form of the vaccine to the existing code (90669) and created a new code 90732 (pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine 23-valent, adult dosage, for subcutaneous or intramuscular use) for the adult form. Remember to bill the vaccine administration code 90471 or 90472 with the vaccine.
