NEWS BRIEFS:

CMS Wraps Up MAC Contracting Project

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced its final five Medicare Administrative Contractors, according to a Jan. 7 press release. CMS has now awarded all 15 MAC contracts.

Contractors will immediately begin implementation activities and will assume full responsibility for the claims processing work in their jurisdictions no later than March 2010, CMS said. The five new MACs are:

• Noridian Administrative Services for Jurisdiction 6 (Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin);

• National Government Services for Jurisdiction 8 (Indiana and Michigan);

• Cahaba Government Benefit Administrators for Jurisdiction 10 (Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee);

• Palmetto Government Benefits Administrators for Jurisdiction 11 (North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia); and

• Highmark Medicare Services for Jurisdiction 15 (Kentucky and Ohio).
