Question: Hi, I manage my practice's revenue cycle team, and I'd like to better understand how we're doing now, and what we can do better. We're a small team and work together in a back office, and I feel like we're forgotten when bonuses are handed out. How can I show my boss that my team is really pulling our weight for the whole office?

Answer: First of all, know what you're working with - and where you need to improve.

Keep track of how your team performs during each aspect of the revenue cycle. Does everyone know what they need to do to maximize your efficiency and effectiveness? If you're feeling like productivity is an issue, make sure your team knows the collective goals. Assign different members of your team to become experts on different segments and payers - empower them with knowledge and responsibility. Equip everyone with the tools and workflow guidance to ask questions, offer suggestions, pursue research. No detail is too small - if your team members who pursue payments are uncomfortable asking people to pay, practice talking through those scenarios with role playing until everyone is comfortable in their roles.
