Know Your Bone-Scan Code Pairs

Use this nuclear-medicine code crosswalk to save time and cut denials

If your practice has trouble following which bone scan codes you can report concurrently, the following chart will help you determine when you should -- and shouldn't -- report more than one bone scan on the same date. These services represent the most common code pairings. Remember that anytime you append modifier -59 (Distinct procedural service) to a code pairing, your documentation must show that you performed the services during separate sessions and why both services were medically necessary.
