Reader Question:

Report 76360 for CT Guidance During Biopsy

Question: Our practice performed CT guidance during a liver biopsy. How should we report our service?

Georgia Subscriber Answer: If your radiologist only performed CT guidance during another surgeon's liver biopsy, you should report 76360-26 (Computed tomography guidance for needle placement [e.g., biopsy, aspiration, injection, localization device], radiological supervision and interpretation; Professional component). If you performed the service at a facility that your practice owns and operates, you should not append modifier -26.

If the radiologist or another physician from your practice performed the liver biopsy as well, you should also report 47000 (Biopsy of liver, needle; percutaneous).
