Reader Questions:

Analyze Add-On Codes

Question: Can I report 19295 for clip placement for core biopsies other than codes 19102 and 19103?

Florida Subscriber Answer: Only report 19295 with the two codes you mention - 19102 and 19103. And remember that placement of a postbiopsy localization clip is reportable only as an add-on service.

Code +19295 (Image guided placement, metallic localization clip, percutaneous, during breast biopsy [list separately in addition to code for primary procedure]) is an add-on code, which means you may only code this in addition to the related primary service that is performed.

Your CPT manual instructs you to use this particular code in conjunction with 19102 (Biopsy of breast; percutaneous, needle core, using imaging guidance) and 19103 (... percutaneous, automated vacuum-assisted or rotating biopsy device, using imaging guidance).
