READER QUESTIONS:

Don't Omit 77057 on Modifier GG Claim

Question: If a patient has a screening and diagnosticmammogram on the same date, should I report both codes or just the diagnostic code with modifier GG? Utah Subscriber Answer: You should report both services and append modifier GG (Performance and payment of a screening mammogram and diagnostic mammogram on the same patient, same day) to the diagnostic mammogram code. Example: A patient presents for a screening mammogram. The radiologist detects a suspicious abnormality and performs a separate unilateral diagnostic mammogram on the same date. You should include the following on the claim: • 77057 -- Screening mammography, bilateral (2-view film study of each breast) • 77055-GG -- Mammography; unilateral.
