Question: I read your article, “Enhance Your Healthcare Security With Zero-Trust Framework,” in Tech & Innovation in Healthcare, Volume 3, Issue 8, and found it very interesting. We’re looking to implement a zero-trust framework in our healthcare practice. Do you have any additional tips when establishing the model? Louisiana Subscriber Answer: Transitioning to a zero-trust framework can be a large shift from traditional methods of securing your practice’s data, and making the change easier starts with adjusting your organization’s attitude toward cybersecurity. Your IT team can hold education sessions and include everyone in the practice in on being a part of the solution. This will help everyone from the partners to the clinicians to the staff be on the same page as far as protecting the patients’ information and the practice’s assets. Another tip is to take baby steps. Getting complete zero trust across the entire organization on the first day would be great, but it’s not realistic. Establish the groundwork, aim to protect a group of systems or assets, and build from there. Having everyone on the same page is a huge step toward achieving a 100-percent zero-trust model, and having a reasonable approach to deploying the model will help avoid headaches.
