Learn if Human Intelligence Is Still Necessary With Transcription
Question: The practitioners I work with are using artificial intelligence (AI) to transcribe their notes more often than not at this point. Is there anything like a policy in place that can effectively check that those notes have been transcribed correctly? AAPC Forum Participant Answer: No, the technology and/or the policies have not gotten to that point yet. At this stage, when practitioners are using AI to transcribe their visit and operative notes, it’s still wise to have them read over the notes to verify they have been captured correctly and to avoid coding errors afterward. According to auditing professional Nikki Copley, CPC, CPMA, “When we audit, we’re looking for anything that might not make sense, so good quality documentation is important. Everyone should have a policy, but since [AI] is still so new, we’re working on that,” she explained during the “AI in the Exam Room: Transforming Physician Documentation with Generative Tools” panel session at AAPC’s DOCUCON 2025.
