Reader Question:

Add 605 and 998.11 for Circumcision Repair

Question: My doctor repaired an incomplete circumcision with intermittent bleeding from the wound. The initial circumcision had been performed three weeks ago by another physician. How can I bill for this procedure? California Subscriber Answer: Report 54163 (Repair incomplete circumcision) for the repeat circumcision and control of the bleeding. Append diagnosis 605 (Redundant prepuce and phimosis) as well as 998.11 (Hemorrhage complicating a procedure). Since the first surgeon is unassociated with your urologist, and the second surgery is outside of the 10-day global of the first circumcision, no modifiers are required for the second surgery.
