CPT Doesn't Offer 53515 Specifics

Question: How should I code for a repair of a prostate laceration using sutures? The injury was caused by an accidental laceration by another physician during surgery. Vermont Subscriber Answer: Report 53515 (Urethrorrhaphy, suture of urethral wound or injury; prostatomembranous) for this repair procedure. There is no indication in the CPT manual of the approach used for 53515, nor does your question state anatomically where in the prostate the injury occurred. This is a code for closure of an injury to the prostate/prostatic urethra, and therefore, you should consider 53515 in this case.
