Wiki New Vs Established Patient for ED in E/M

Dear Peers,

Request clarifications on ED in E/M.

1. How do we classify new and established patient in ED?

2. Scenario : Patient got chest pain and visits ED and gets treatment. He comes back to ED next day with same complaint of chest pain and ECG is done and treated.
In this case how do we take the patient category for as per CMS guidelines for new or established patient.

There's no concept of new vs established patient for ED

Each ED encounter is considered as a new problem. Also, as stated above, there is no concept of new vs. established for codes 99281 - 99285.
