Anesthesia Coding Alert

Reader Question:

Coding LEEP

Question: Which code is best to use for LEEP, and why? 57520 or 57522?

Anonymous Texas Subscriber

Answer: LEEP stands for Loop Electrode Excision Procedure. Code 57520 is conization of cervix, with or without fulguration, with or without dilation and curettage, with or without repair; cold knife or laser. Since code 57522 is for the same procedure using loop electrode excision, it would be the more appropriate code to use.
