Anesthesia Coding Alert

Reader Question:

Duramorph Billing

Question: What is the correct way to bill for an epidural or intrathecal narcotic (Duramorph) given during an epidural or spinal anesthesia for a
c-section? What code would you use, and how many units would you bill?

Anonymous Indianapolis Subscriber

Answer: This service is non-billable by the anesthesiologist unless special circumstances apply in your facility, because the hospital would usually bill the narcotic as a supply.
