Reader Question:

RACZ Catheter Lysis: Adhesions/Epidurographies

Question: How do I code for a RACZ catheter lysis of adhesions and for epidurographies?

Michigan Subscriber

Answer: For either procedure, apply code CPT 62263 (percutaneous lysis of epidural adhesions using solution injection [e.g., hypertonic saline, enzyme] or mechanical means [e.g., spring-wound catheter] including radiologic localization [includes contrast when administered]). Because CPT does not have specific codes for epidural diagnostic or therapeutic procedures using a spinal endoscope, 62263 is the best choice. For more information on coding for similar procedures see page 92 of the December 2000 Anesthesia Coding Alert.
