Pinpoint What Codes to Use For ICE

Question: What are the codes for ICE (intracardiac echocardiography)?

Florida Subscriber

Answer: For ICE, you'll report +93662 (Intracardiac echocardiography during therapeutic/diagnostic intervention, including imaging supervision and interpretation [List separately in addition to code for primary procedure])

Since +93662 is an add-on code, you must list it in addition to the correct code for the primary procedure. According to CPT® 2017, when appropriate, you can report +93662 in conjunction with the following:

  • Balloon valvuloplasty code 92987
  • Cardiac cath codes 93453, 93460-93462, 93532, 93580, 93581
  • Electrophysiologic evaluation codes 93620-93622, 93653-93654, 93656.

Note: You should never report +93662 with 92961 (Cardioversion, elective, electrical conversion of arrhythmia; internal [separate procedure]), says CPT® 2017 in a parenthetical note with +93662.
