Check NCCI Edits, CPT® Guidelines

Question: Can code +76937 be reported in conjunction with code 93580?

Answer: You should always check your cardiologist’s documentation to make sure that it supports reporting both of these codes. If the documentation does support the codes, there are no CPT® guidelines or National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) Procedure-to-Procedure (PTP) edits that prohibit you from reporting +76937 (Ultrasound guidance for vascular access requiring ultrasound evaluation of potential access sites, documentation of selected vessel patency, concurrent realtime ultrasound visualization of vascular needle entry, with permanent recording and reporting (List separately in addition to code for primary procedure)) and 93580 (Percutaneous transcatheter closure of congenital interatrial communication (ie, Fontan fenestration, atrial septal defect) with implant) together.
