Industry Note:

Document Your Transfer Contacts Or Risk Losing Out

New form required from one MAC. If you fail to contact your patient's previous home health agency when the patient's transfer is in dispute, you'll be delaying your payment. New HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor CGS has issued a new form for disputed HHA transfers, and that form requires agencies to list their three attempts to contact the previous agency. "Note that your HHA must make three attempts to resolve the issue with the receiving agency prior to submitting this form to CGS," the HHH MAC says in an e-mail message to providers. Plus: Agencies must include their admission documentation with the form, CGS adds. HHAs must mail -- not fax -- the new form, CGS informs providers. The form is online at www.cgsmedicare.com/hhh/help/pdf/Resolving_Transfer_Disputev2%20_5_.pdf.
