Industry Notes

• Don't bother sending in certification for your psych nurses -- it's no longer necessary. "The certification requirements were part of a local coverage determination (LCD) that was discontinued several years ago," regional home health intermediary Cahaba GBA says in its May newsletter to providers. "Therefore, you are no longer required to submit psychiatric nursing credentials to Cahaba." CMS does require extra training and experience for psych nurses, however, Cahaba points out in the Newsline. The requirements are spelled out in the Medicare Benefit Policy Manual (CMS Pub.100-02), Ch. 7, §40.1.2.15. Medicare manuals are available online at www.cms.gov/Manuals/IOM/list.asp.
