• Gentiva Health Services Inc. saw its profits cut nearly in half in the latest quarter. The Atlanta-based national chain reported net income of $9.3 million for the quarter ended April 4, down from an $18 million profit in the quarter ended March 29, 2009. Revenues in that time period went from $276.4 million to $297.1 million, the company says in a release. Gentiva incurred a $9.5 million charge during the quarter "to resolve the matters which were subject to a 2003 OIG subpoena relating to the Company's cost reports for the 1998 to 2000 periods," it says. Gentiva also has acquired United Home Care Group in Louisiana, the company says in a separate release. The acquisition of the company, which operates under the names United Home Care Services and Care Partners, will add 25 new parishes to Gentiva's current service area in the state.
