Are You Clear On These Look-Back Period Outliers?

Pay attention to individual look-backs in the BIMS.

Although the look-back period for most MDS 3.0 items is seven days, there are still quite a few items with different instructions or timelines for the look-back period. Use this quick-reference chart, courtesy of the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS), to make your job easier in spotting the MDS items with varying look-back periods.

Note: Keep in mind that the standard seven-day look-back period counts back from and includes the Assessment Reference Date (ARD) — ARD plus six previous days — but does not include history from before admission, according to DADS.
