New Face Atop Troubled OIG As exiting HHS Office of Inspector General chief Janet Rehnquist takes her leave, Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson has announced a new person to serve as, essentially, the acting head of the agency until a new IG can be appointed. Thompson May 30 said Dara Corrigan will assume the post of acting principal deputy IG. Corrigan is no stranger to health care fraud and abuse investigations: She joins the OIG from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, where she served as director of program integrity, responsible for all Medicare enforcement and integrity activities. "Dara has admirably served HHS and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services," Thompson says. "She will aggressively ensure that the Office of Inspector General continues to protect taxpayers from fraud and abuse."

Thompson Won't Do Second Term Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson told the Associated Press June 3 that he won't stay on for a second Bush presidential term. He also said that he's unlikely to challenge Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) next year but that at some point he will run for office again.
