Question: I have a question about an ob-triage encounter. The patient came in, and Dr. A saw her, who then signed out the patient to Dr. B when the shift change occurred. I know I can combine the notes, but who should get the billing credit?

Answer: This won’t matter if you’re billing under the same ID number, but you should opt for the admitting triage physician (Dr. A). If the services go to a second date and you can bill another code, you should bill that under the ob-gyn who was on shift at that time (Dr. B).
